Sleepy & Boo play house music of all shapes and sizes, rocking rooms big and small across New York City and beyond. They love thick drums, big basslines, hypnotic grooves and tripped-out sci-fi synthesizers. Forget sticking to one genre in a typical set, they'll cover everything from lush deepness and funky, stripped-down tracks to pulsating minimal beats and dark, jacked-up electronic elements. Moving beyond a typical DJ performance, the duo perform a unique tag-team set: while one is manning the turntables, the other is adding samples, loops and effects via their KAOSS pad and Electribe sampler. The result is a crowd-energizing performance that always keeps the dancefloor moving.
The duo are the founders of Basic NYC, their production group thats involved in all facets of underground dance culture: DJing, throwing parties and producing tracks. For close to three years, theyve been the bi-weekly residents of Basic NYC events at New York hotspot the Sullivan Room (winner of the 2005 Night Stalker award from Club Systems magazine). Their party reflects the basic philosophy music-forward, vibe-oriented events that are dedicated to exposing new and out-of-town talent. Named as "Night Visionaries" by Time Out New York magazine in April 2005, Sleepy & Boo's party has hosted guests such as John Tejada, Nathan Coles, Ralph Lawson, Garth, David Duriez, Kevin Yost, the Lawnchair Generals, Jay Tripwire, Phil Weeks, DJ Heather, Kaskade, Hipp-e, Tyler Stadius, Tony Thomas and many more. Sleepy & Boo's late night closing sets have become a memorable experience for the Sullivan Room crowd, and an S&B Session party series, highlighting their own sets and productions, will be launching soon.
In 2006, Sleepy & Boo have brought their underground vibe to Pacha New York, NYC's newest megaclub. Working in conjunction with the club, their ongoing party features NYC local DJs in the basement, complementing the main floor talent and exposing the club to New York's party cognoscenti. It's a successful mix of big room clubbing with the energy of the NYC local scene. Sleepy & Boo have become main floor regulars themselves, DJing alongside Pacha guests including Timo Maas, Josh Wink, Lee Burridge, Kaskade, Max Graham, and Mark Farina.
Sleepy & Boo's annual events at the Miami Winter Music Conference have become some of the conference's most anticipated and beloved parties. 2006 was their third consecutive year of throwing parties, with five garden events at the Beach Plaza Hotel and two evening showcases that wowed crowds. This past year, Basic NYC teamed up with notable labels including Nordic Trax and Robsoul Recordings, with DJs such as Mark Farina, Heather, DJ Sneak and more playing to a packed and up-for-it crowd throughout the week.
DJing is their first and foremost passion, and Sleepy & Boo have earned rave reviews worldwide for their diverse, crowd-moving sets. Recent visits to London, Mallorca, Belgium, Ibiza, Germany, San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle and Hawaii have exposed new audiences to their dynamic sound and DJing style. Supplied with fresh white labels and promos from Syntax Distribution (where Sleepy works as a copywriter), the duo love exposing their crowds to cutting edge new tracks from around the globe.
